Durable Flume Solution for Blast Furnace Slag Transport.
In the blast furnace industry, transporting granulated slag through flume systems requires materials that can withstand extreme abrasion and corrosion. An unlined flume system initially failed under these harsh conditions, leading to frequent repairs and high maintenance costs. Kalenborn resolved the issue by lining the system with KALCRET BTX, a high-performance concrete designed to resist erosion and temperatures up to 2,192 °F. Installed at 3.15 inches thick on the base and 1.38 inches on the side walls, the new design delivered exceptional durability. The system operated reliably for 12 years without significant wear, proving the effectiveness of KALCRET BTX in demanding slag handling environments.

Optimum extraction of sinter dust in the suction duct
In pig iron production, steel mills and foundries, emissions are generated at many points, including sinter dust, which must be reliably collected and filtered. In addition to intensive filtration, the focus is on efficiency: the emissions must be extracted optimally with the lowest possible volumes of false air. Sinter dust, for example, causes abrasion and damages the suction duct in sinter plants. Kalenborn has lined the duct with the aluminum oxide ceramic KALOCER, which protects against extreme abrasion. The lining ensures a uniform volume flow in the duct and provides a longer service life for the plant component.
